The "Sweet Pea's" Story

Sweet Pea's is a praise to Rachel's Grandma and an inclusion of family details into its overall creation. Rachel has always said, "I don't know how she did everything!" Grandma G cooked two homemade meals plus snacks, did the housekeeping, as well as take my siblings and I to sporting events, school, and continuously was our biggest support.

Family is such an important part of life and Rachel has sprinkled her family throughout Sweet Pea's. Her dad is her biggest hero in life. His most favorite dessert is Rachel's scratch made chocolate molten cake; this is a specialty treat so it's even more of an occasion when it's featured on the menu. The maple syrup in the shopping area is imported from Maine from her sister's family business. Hand-crafted charcuterie boards on display are all made by Rachel's brother in-law and shipped to the storefront. The Mainley Earl Grey Tea that is the house staple for steeping is her beloved Aunt's favorite tea. Even the custom Sweet Pea's totes and shirts are made from her high school classmate's family business up in Maine. Many of the items in the shopping area are sourced from New England businesses to bring a little of Rachel's origins to North Carolina.

Sweet Pea's is a cozy and inviting place to grab a coffee with friends, morning brunch with mimosas, and your next favorite lunch spot. The specialty shopping area offers treat and snacks, crafted gifts, seasonal finds, and a little piece of the New England states for everyone to enjoy down South.

Thank you so much for visiting us!

My Culinary Journey

I am originally from Maine, where the summers are beautiful and the winters are brutal but the lobster is fabulous all year long. I fell in love with cooking at the age of five, when my grandmother let me flip crepes in the morning and my mom let me clean the brownie bowl in the afternoon. My passion has flourished over the years and my skills have skyrocketed throughout my many culinary experiences.

Each day in the kitchen is just another stepping stone of my culinary adventure in life!

In high school I was accepted into a technical school program for Culinary Arts which only allowed my culinary devotion to thrive even more. Graduating at the top of the class gave me the choice of the top three culinary schools in the country.

I graduated from Johnson and Wales in 2009 and started a personal chef company that soon grew into Rachel's Sweet & Savory Catering. As the catering business continues to focus mainly on private aviation and corporate catering, I have now opened Sweet Pea's Specialty Shop storefront to offer a bistro style culinary experience and specialty New England finds to the NC locals.
